In the 1970s, Cliff McFadden accepted a position at Viscosity Oil Co. He was allowed to be innovative and treat the business as his own. With the support of the owner, Dick Deshon, he turned the focus of that oil company into a highly respected asphalt maintenance business. He then set out to learn every aspect of the asphalt industry. 

Cliff was always willing to learn and change to benefit the quality of work and his customers. He built that business by working very hard, growing relationships, and earning respect and trust from local business owners. Even though his name wasn’t on the sign, he conducted himself as if it were, knowing that his reputation was on the line regardless. He demanded putting the needs of his customers first and he focused on quality over quantity. Cliff was not only tasked with the responsibility of operating the business, but he also worked daily with his crew. He never asked an employee to do anything that he didn't do. Because of his principles, Cliff gained the respect of his employees and customers. 

Cliff’s oldest son, Kip, began working during the summers in the late 70s and his youngest son, Michael, began working the summers in the late 80's. Both started with an asphalt pick and shovel in their hands. They had the opportunity to learn from the best and to build a foundation for their future. After college, Kip had the great pleasure to work for Herzog Contracting. He was afforded a second opportunity to learn from some of the best in the asphalt industry, paving and bidding highway projects all over Texas and a short stint bidding railroad projects in California. In 1990 he moved back home to St. Joseph and joined back up with his father at Viscosity. With the support of Dick, they began growing the business together, adding new asphalt construction, concrete repairs and parking lot cleaning and sweeping. A few years later, Michael joined the two at Viscosity along with son-in-law/brother-in-law Mark Scott..

In 2008 Dick graciously sold the assets of the company to Cliff, Kip and Michael… McFadden Construction Corp. was born. With Michael's addition to the company, striping and Penetrx concrete sealing was added. McFadden Construction Corp. became a complete asphalt and concrete maintenance company including new construction projects with asphalt and concrete. Because the principles, qualities and expectations were already ingrained in the company, the only change was in the name. The transition was smooth because of the integrity and respect that Cliff had earned over the many years. 

McFadden construction has continued to grow and build upon those years of the past. We have welcomed more family members and the next generation. 

In 2019, Kip and Michael took ownership of the company and are still blessed with their father working with them daily. 

We have changed nothing when it pertains to the respect we have for our customers and putting their needs first. We offer a hands-on approach from ownership on down to the newest team member. We strive to produce the best quality of work and to continue building relationships, trust and the respect of our community.
